Separate the cut edge and stitch line
The cutting edge determines the material cut. The stitch line describes the eventual join. Their distance depends on construction and material. One general allowance is therefore not automatically suitable for every edge of a product.
Check corners and transitions deliberately
Offset contours can overlap or create impractical points at tight curves and corners. Check transitions against the intended construction method. Compare joining lengths along the line relevant to stitching.
Use notches clearly
Notches connect the drawing to practical assembly. Place them where orientation or matching is needed. Their shape and depth must suit the marking or cutting method and the material.
Complete the handover
Another team member should be able to identify matching edges and the lines to cut. Check this using actual output and an assembled sample. Record non-standard allowances and special operations in production documentation.
- Identify stitch and cutting lines clearly
- Check corners and tight radii
- Compare notches on both joining edges
- Confirm the marking method in a test cut
